Stair Sculpture in Red – Two vertically stacked apartments in an existing multi-story residential building are to be connected and reconfigured. The stair sculpture forms the central linking element. It ties into all surrounding spaces and, through its perforations, gradually dissolves materially towards the upper floor. With its deliberate positioning, design, and presence, the stair becomes the defining centerpiece—standing out clearly while expressing the new connection between levels.
TAU
The interventions in the existing structure were kept to a minimum, applied only where a visual enlargement of the spaces was necessary. The material palette combines oak, concrete, and the striking red of the staircase, echoed in the predominantly red art objects of the clients. The redesign of the two terraces strengthens their relationship to the interior and creates intriguing visual connections with the spaces surrounding the stair.
