Hidden behind an listed facade, a residential and working space is created for the client within a heritage protection area. The entire apartment is oriented towards the new rooftop atrium, the centerpiece of the apartment. This serves as an open space and the focal point of daily life, ensuring the desired absolute privacy.
Following the concept of an ancient Roman atrium house, all living spaces, such as the living room, kitchen, and dining room, are arranged around the outdoor area. Another distinctive feature of the penthouse living space is the two-story library. Through carefully designed sightlines to the outdoors and various landmarks of the surrounding area, the exterior is connected to the interior.
The material concept is inspired by English design elements – exposed brickwork meets black steel and oak wood. The applied clay plaster regulates humidity, creates a pleasant indoor climate, and is biodegradable.
In combination with a sustainable cooling and heating system via an air-source heat pump, energy consumption is minimized, and dependence on fossil fuels is reduced. These measures enhance living comfort and support climate protection.
