A terraced housing development is being created in a rural settlement area, integrating harmoniously into its surroundings. The small-scale design allows the buildings to blend sensitively into the existing village structure
Despite a limited budget, the focus was on creating well-considered, compact floor plans with bright, open living spaces. Timber was deliberately used as both a design and structural element to ensure a warm atmosphere and ecological quality. A distinctive recess along half the façade articulates the building volumes and clearly defines each housing unit. Cantilevered elements at the entrances mark the access points, provide weather protection, and create a sheltered entry zone with increased privacy. Side-positioned carports act as visual screens, separating the private gardens from the street.
The living areas are spread across two floors and organized around a side-mounted staircase. The ground floor, in particular, benefits from three-sided natural lighting, offering a bright, welcoming atmosphere and framing targeted views into the garden. Generous glazing in the living areas creates a seamless transition to the terrace and private outdoor space.
To counteract the trend of land sealing, the building volume was kept compact. All outdoor surfaces were designed with permeable materials. Each residential unit is also equipped with a photovoltaic system and a heat pump, contributing to sustainable construction and energy-efficient living.
