ASFINAG is seeking proposals and ideas for the renewal of the Southeast Tangent. The proposed measures should lead to a unification of the appearance and create a distinctive link with recognizable value between the South and East.
The conceptual points are color, accompanying greenery, visual connection, and energy generation.
The current tunnel environment requires brightening through color and lighting. By using LEDs, energy savings would be achieved, and, for example, monthly color changes of the entire tunnel section would be possible, thus breaking the monotony for drivers.
The walls – always one-sided and especially in section 3 – allow for the application of pictograms, graphic applications, or art objects.
The connection to the invisible surroundings can be established with location-based subjects, such as a football stadium.
An additional replacement of existing noise barriers with transparent materials would open up views of building silhouettes, church towers, parks, and the Danube, offering the driver “landscape windows” or “windows to the city.” Now, it’s not just the noise that refers to the traffic artery.
A color spectrum will be used that reflects the surroundings – landscape, city, water. A middle green stripe runs through the entire area, providing calming effects during traffic jams. Special situations will be marked by distinct area colors.
The landscape on both sides of the A23 consists of dense vegetation and narrow grass strips, which largely keep the traffic invisible. An organized redesign can be achieved through selective removal, replanting, and pruning of shrubs to create a transparent ‘park strip.’ The greenery acts as a natural sound barrier and CO2 filter.
