Exterior Design

MAR

Instead of opting for new construction, this project consciously chose the path of building within the existing structure. The 1911 house was adapted to contemporary living needs through comprehensive renovation and a roof extension. The deliberate decision to utilize the existing building conserves resources, minimizes land sealing, and preserves the established fabric.

A careful approach to existing materials and components was a central guiding principle of the renovation. Original wooden windows and doors were preserved and meticulously restored. New elements—such as windows and roof surfaces—were executed in black aluminum, creating a striking yet harmonious dialogue between old and new. The basement was partially waterproofed, reflecting the conscious decision to accept its typical characteristics as a historic cellar.

The extension maximizes the existing building’s potential, adding quality living space and a terrace without increasing land sealing. The old vestibule was replaced by a subtly designed new entrance that contrasts yet complements the historic structure.

The adaptation of the 1980s terrace will be the final intervention. Its new stepped design with lounging and seating areas will enhance the connection to the garden and complete the house’s transformation.
